I am back in Berlin and it feels like home. Sadly I’m not in my room for next semester so I’m still living out of my backpack(s), but hopefully that changes soon enough. I am so drained so I will give an update to the last days of my trip tomorrow, just wanted to say that I’m alive and well.
Man: Mathematics?
Me: What?
Man: Do you know mathematics man?
Me: Excuse me?
Man: You know, math man?
Me: Oh, Batman? Yeah.
Man: Oh, (singing, now) Spiderman, Spiderman
Me: Yeah, I know Spiderman too
Man: Do you study mathematics?
Me: No, I study sociology
Man: Ah, in London or Rome?
Me: Uh, New York
Man: Mathematics man?
Me: What, sorry?
Man: You mathematics man?
Me: Excuse me?
Man: Ciao!
Me: Ciao.
This was the man who was operated a lift to the Terrace of the Quadrigas. I think he may have been asking if I was Spiderman, but I really don't think I look like Tobey Maguire, guys. Also, everyone here speaks to me in Italian, so I guess I look the part which makes sense. Makes things confusing though, especially when my face which must say, "I have no idea what you're saying to me right now" goes unnoticed and they continue to speak in the language.
I got a bunch done today, though, despite sleeping late and despite the rain, which is nice. I forgot my cord in the room so I'll put up pictures later or tomorrow or something. The Fontana di Trevi was absolutely gorgeous and by far the coolest fountain I have ever seen, the Coliseum was awesome, and the Pantheon was also pretty cool. My favorite was probably still the terrace, if only for that conversation with the lift-operations man. I also jinxed the weather and it rained, so now my shoes are so wet and so are my feet, so I'm not sure what I'm doing tonight. There's apparently an all-vegan club here, though, and I really want to check that out on Saturday. They even have vegan hot dogs and stuff so it sounds pretty wonderful. We'll see, though.
